After overwhelming the US tennis legend Venus Williams, Maria Sakkari from Greece produced another exhilarating performance at the San Jose tournament to beat American Danielle Collins in three sets (3-6, 7-5, 6-2).
Down a set and 1-4, she clawed her way back and into her first WTA final on Sunday where she will face Romanian champion Mihaela Buzărnescu.
“I think it’s part of my character and the way I grew up playing – I like drama” the Greek player said after the victory. “When things get tighter, I’m more used to it. It’s in my character, Spartan”.
